Definition: 

The variability among living organism withing the polar ecosystem. Physical characteristics important for structuring Arctic biodiversity include extreme seasonality with dramatic intra-annual variation in insolation, generally cool summers, presence of permafrost resulting in unusual landforms, and annual to multi-year sea-ice cover.
